Broomfleet Washlands and the Humber bank

Broomfleet sits on an island of slightly higher ground in the Humber levels, and this loop takes in the two things that make it: the Washlands, a flood-relief basin of pools, reedbed and sedge beside the Market Weighton Canal, and the estuary bank out to Broomfleet Island. You cross the railway at the station, pick up the canal trail south past the Washlands perimeter path, then climb the flood bank and follow it round the bulge of the island before turning back up Station Road. The trail's own guidance permits dogs along the whole length but asks for a lead where signs say so and for dogs to be kept out of the ponds and reed beds. The Washlands path is impassable when the canal is in flood, and there are kissing gates at the Washlands to negotiate.
