The cafe inside the Spa on South Marine Drive, glass-fronted straight onto South Beach and the Princess Mary Promenade, and the obvious warm stop when the wind comes off the bay. The Spa's own cafe page says it is now dog friendly with a designated sitting area in Sessions, which is the ground-floor bar and lounge rather than the main hall. It opens nine to four Monday to Saturday and ten to four on Sunday, and it warns that it can close early on big gig days, so check before you build a walk round it. This is the town-centre end of the beach, so from 1 May to 30 September the sand outside is inside the council's dog exclusion and you have to walk south past the sea wall to get a dog onto it. Pay and display parking is on South Marine Drive right outside.
