Alexandra Dock and the Holderness Drain

A working-docks walk rather than a pretty one, and the better for it: Hull City Council's signposted circuit leaves St John's Church on Rosmead Street, crosses the park with its playground and exercise zone, and takes the old Withernsea branch line cycleway to the blue bridge over the railway into the dock estate. From there it follows the Holderness Drain down to Hedon Road, past the Alexandra Dock gatehouse and the restored hundred-ton steam crane that Associated British Ports keeps on the quay, with a short optional spur out to the Humber bank or into Hedon Road Cemetery, before returning past Hull Prison and up Southcoates Lane. It is Hull City Council land and highway, and Hull has no dog control Public Spaces Protection Order of any kind, so the only instruction on the council's route page is to pick up after your dog. Hedon Road is a dual carriageway with heavy port traffic and the drain bank is unfenced.
