Dodworth · 2 checked
Boots on. These are the Dodworth walks worth the drive, with lead rules and livestock warnings marked.
The main open space in Dodworth, off Station Road behind the Miners Welfare, with a play area, an outdoor gym and a perimeter path round the pitches. It is a village rec and nothing more, but Dodworth has little else within walking distance and this is where the village walks its dogs before work. Dodworth station is five minutes away on the Barnsley to Huddersfield line, and Gilroyd recreation ground is half a mile south. For a real walk, the Silkstone Waggonway starts three miles west.
The recreation ground at Gilroyd on the southern edge of Dodworth, off Gilroyd Lane, with a play area, a multi-use games area, a youth shelter and open grass with a path round it. Barnsley Council lists it among its Dodworth recreation facilities. It is a village rec and takes fifteen minutes to walk round, but the lanes south of it drop towards the Dove valley and the fields, which is where the longer walk is. Dodworth recreation ground is half a mile north.
