Free on-street parking on Station Road and around the Miners Welfare; the station car park at Dodworth is a few minutes' walk and fills with commuters on weekday mornings

The main open space in Dodworth, off Station Road behind the Miners Welfare, with a play area, an outdoor gym and a perimeter path round the pitches. It is a village rec and nothing more, but Dodworth has little else within walking distance and this is where the village walks its dogs before work. Dodworth station is five minutes away on the Barnsley to Huddersfield line, and Gilroyd recreation ground is half a mile south. For a real walk, the Silkstone Waggonway starts three miles west.

THE SMALL PRINTBarnsley Council's borough-wide dog fouling and control PSPO of 1 April 2025, in force for three years, applies: remove the faeces, carry and produce the means to pick up when an authorised officer asks, and lead the dog when an authorised officer directs. Dogs must not be taken into the fenced children's play area where it is signed as a dog exclusion area, and must be on a lead in every Barnsley cemetery. Fixed penalty £100, or a level 3 fine on conviction. There is no general lead requirement in Barnsley parks.
