Somewhere to sleep that actually means "dogs welcome" — bowls out, no hidden surcharge surprises.
A Crerar hotel on the shore road with Grasmere lake below and Loughrigg Terrace a walk away. Dogs stay in dog-friendly bedrooms, bowls are provided, and the kitchen will usually arrange dining so your dog can stay with you; ask when booking. Assistance dogs stay free.
A Michelin-starred Victorian house on the Keswick road out of Grasmere, with twenty bedrooms and a kitchen garden behind. Dogs stay in the designated dog-friendly bedrooms rather than anywhere in the house, which keeps the restaurant side of things straightforward.
The old coaching inn on the Keswick Road at the north end of Grasmere, at the foot of the Greenhead Gill path onto Stone Arthur and Fairfield. The Inn Collection Group publishes the terms plainly: up to two dogs per room at £15 per dog per night, added during the booking process. Dog-friendly rooms are a designated subset rather than the whole house, so book the dog on rather than turning up with one. It is a five-minute walk into the village and about ten to the lake shore at Red Bank.
A working hill farm turned rooms-and-bistro on the A591 above Mill Bridge, about a mile north of Grasmere village and straight onto the Helvellyn and Fairfield ground. Its published dog page sets out the arrangement in detail: dogs are allowed in the bistro as well as the bedrooms, on a lead in all public areas, and the charge is £20 per dog per stay. Dog towels, poo bags, a wash station and a welcome treat are provided. The numbers differ by unit, so check which room you are booking before you turn up with two dogs.
The old inn on the A591 north of Grasmere village, on the pull up towards Dunmail Raise and handy for the Greenhead Gill and Helm Crag paths. The operator's accommodation page states that pets are accepted in the Standard Double rooms and in one of the Twin rooms only, so the dog decides which room you get. The King Double and Superior King rooms are not listed as taking pets. Availability of the dog-friendly twin should be checked before booking rather than on arrival.
