With stunning sea and river views nestled in the south-facing bank of the Yealm estuary in the pretty village of Newton Ferrers this cosy home offers guests a wonderful blend of exclusive comfort whilst being within walking distance of the local shops pub with restaurant the Yacht Club Bar and the Village Green Cake and Deli shop and eateries. The village is surrounded by ancient woodland and beautiful creeks allowing guests and even four-legged friends to take in the stunning surroundings with ease whilst you can also swap woodland for coastline and enjoy the clifftop views of the South West Coast path for a truly eye catching trek. Depending on the tide you can walk or catch a ferry across the River Yealm to Noss Mayo and enjoy a stroll through the pretty woodland to Cellar Beach where dogs are welcome. Go on a paddleboard adventure on the river rental is based in Newton Ferrers (subject to availability). The village of Noss Mayo is just 1.5 miles (closer at low tide!) there you will find two more lovely local pubs whilst slightly further afield you will find popular Devonshire hotspots in cinematic Mothecombe Beach (5.4miles International Velvet and Hornblower filmed there) Plymouth (8 miles) which offers plenty of places to eat one being The Fig Tree or try The Oyster Shack at Bigbury-on-sea (15 miles). This property previously known as Scantlings is set above the road accessed via a number of steps to the front once you arrive at the patio area take a moment to simply pause turn and take in the view. Moving on into the home you will soon notice the range of homely features and creature comforts this neat riverside home has on offer. Continuing through the initial hallway you will see the kitchen on your left hand side with the lounge/diner directly ahead of you. The lounge sits two comfortable sofas from which to take in your choice of viewing of the Smart TV or breathtaking views across the estuary. An ideal spot to pop out those family board games and puzzles. The dining table also sits within the room and provides ample seating for all to sit and dine together. Guests will find the kitchen provides all the essential appliances for a stress-free convenient stay whilst there is also a breakfast table here providing the perfect thinking spot to sit relax with a cuppa or a coffee and plan the day s adventures ahead. Making your way upstairs will bring you to the three bedrooms two of which provide views across the estuary and all three bedrooms allow use of ample clothing storage. Completing this home from home is the family bathroom with shower over bath and WC. Stepping out through the sliding doors from the lounge space guests can access the private balcony with additional outdoor seating. Look no further for that perfect sunset viewing spot. A challenging 6.5 miles of about three and a half hours, up the wooded Avon estuary on the Estuary Way, inland to the thatched village of Ringmore and back along open clifftop past Ayrmer Cove and Challaborough, with 330 metres of climbing and several short sharp descents. Start at the large pay-and-display car park above Bigbury-on-Sea, which looks out at Burgh Island and is the only substantial parking for miles; the 875 bus runs from Modbury on Fridays only, so plan on driving. Dogs get a long off-lead stretch on the estuary path and at Ayrmer Cove, and the Journey's End at Ringmore takes them, but the Bigbury beach where you park bars dogs between 10am and 7pm from 1 May to 30 September, and there is grazing stock in almost every field on the inland half.

The wide sand flats facing Burgh Island, with the tidal causeway crossing them twice a day. The restricted stretch runs east from the lifeguard steps and is closed to dogs during the day in season; the council publishes it as a ten to seven restriction while the order itself describes a twenty-four hour ban on that part, so read the signs on the day.

Bantham Beach

Bantham

Privately owned surf beach at the mouth of the Avon, run by the Bantham Estate rather than the council, with a gatekeeper on the car park. Dogs are barred from the main beach through the season but the River Beach, on the estuary side, stays open to them all year and grows to many acres at low tide. The estate asks that dogs are kept under control and away from livestock.

A gentle 3.2 miles of about an hour and three quarters over the dunes and low cliffs to Thurlestone Sand and the Thurlestone rock, returning through the village and by field paths, with only 130 metres of climbing and firm going throughout. Start at the paid Bantham Beach car park, which is run by the Bantham Estate and closes its gates in the evening, and note that the lane in from Buckland is narrow and busy with surfers all summer. The dog position is unusual here and worth getting right: the South Hams council order names only Bigbury, Mouthwell Sands at Hope Cove and Salcombe South Sands, so Bantham's own summer dog rules are set by the estate that owns the beach, while Thurlestone Sand a mile along the walk is dog-friendly with a stream to drink from.

Four point eight miles and two and a half hours from the thatched lanes of Outer Hope round the prehistoric fort on Bolt Tail and along the open heath of Bolberry Down, back by quiet road and green lane, with 240 metres of climbing on uneven field and cliff path. Park in the pay-and-display car park at Outer Hope, which is the only sensible parking in the village and fills early, or use the twice-daily 162 bus from Kingsbridge. Dogs run free on the Bolberry heath and the National Trust keeps the top paths wide and firm, but Mouthwell Sands, the main beach at Hope Cove, excludes dogs between 10am and 7pm from 1 May to 30 September, and there are cliff drops on Bolt Tail with no fence and sheep on the return lanes.

Five miles along the southern rim of Dartmoor over Butterdon Hill and Western Beacon, two and three quarter hours with 250 metres of climbing on open moor grass, a stone row and the bed of the old Redlake tramway. Start at the small free car park at Harford Moor Gate, two miles up the lane from Ivybridge and holding perhaps twenty cars, or walk up from Ivybridge station and the Two Moors Way sign to add three miles and 150 metres of climb. The whole route is access land and the views run to Plymouth Sound and the sea, but sheep and ponies graze it year round, ground-nesting birds mean a lead from 1 March to 31 July, and the only water is the stream below the moor gate, so carry some.
