A village pub on Overstrand high street with eight en-suite bedrooms, some of them dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in the bar, the conservatory and the outdoor areas but not in the main restaurant, so eating together means asking for a conservatory table. Ten minutes' walk from the beach ramp.

Beach SOME LIMITS

Overstrand Beach

Dogs banned MAY–SEP

Sand and groynes below a low cliff, reached by the ramp at the end of Pauls Lane, with a beach cafe at the top and far fewer people than Cromer two miles west. The centre of the beach is closed to dogs in summer under a council order; the marked zone is small and the sand continues beyond it. Winter here is close to empty.

Walk SOME LIMITS

Overstrand, Sidestrand and Northrepps

5.3 MI · 2H 35M · 78% OFF-ROAD

Five and a quarter miles and about two and a half hours, out along the clifftop past the slumped ground at Sidestrand and back inland through Northrepps on field paths and a sunken lane. Start at the Overstrand beach car park at the bottom of Pauls Lane, pay and display and small at around fifty spaces, so a summer afternoon usually means the free roadside space up on the High Street instead. The cliff edge here is actively slipping and unfenced, the inland return crosses grazed fields with kissing gates, and the council excludes dogs from the marked area of Overstrand beach and requires leads on the promenade from 1 May to 30 September.

Stay DOGS WELCOME

Sea Marge Hotel

NR27 0AB
No reviews yet

An Edwardian house built for Sir Edgar Speyer, now a hotel with lawns running out to the cliff path above Overstrand beach. The hotel says plainly that it is dog friendly and that you can bring your dog away with you, though it does not publish which rooms or what it charges. The cliff walk to Cromer starts at the end of the garden.
