Directions to the start →

The westward leg of the round the Womersley parish council sets out, taken on its own: two miles of lane and field-edge path from Walden Stubbs to Kirk Smeaton with the River Went off to the north the whole way. It is flat, arable and slow, with hedges, dyke crossings and long views to the limestone rise at Went Edge, and it finishes in Kirk Smeaton within a few hundred yards of the Brockadale reserve. This is working farmland on rights of way, so the Countryside Code applies: dog on a lead or in sight, kept off the crops, and on a lead around livestock, and a farmer may lawfully shoot a dog chasing stock. Walk it back or arrange a lift; there is no useful bus between the two.

THE SMALL PRINTPublic rights of way across working farmland. Countryside Code: dog on a lead or in sight, not straying from the path, on a lead around livestock.
