Directions to the start →

Five miles and two to three hours through the dry stone valley of the Valley of Rocks, out towards Lee Bay and back over Hollerday Hill and the North Walk into Lynton, with 300 metres of climbing on good paths, one steady lane and a rocky top section. Start from the free roadside parking along the loop road in the Valley of Rocks, which has toilets and a tea van in season and is much easier than the tight pay-and-display in Lynton itself. The feral goats that live on these crags are the reason to keep a dog close rather than loose: they will stand their ground, the drops off Castle Rock and the North Walk are severe and unfenced, and there is no water on the tops, so fill up in Lynton before you climb.

THE SMALL PRINTFeral goats and sheep range across the crags and the valley floor; Exmoor National Park asks for dogs on a lead or otherwise under close control at all times, and close to livestock a short lead.
