A reservoir and nature reserve on Doncaster Road between Thrybergh and Hooton Roberts, opened as a country park in 1983 on what had been a Victorian water supply reservoir. A made path runs the whole way round the water, with rangers on site, a fly fishing beat worked under Rotherham Council permits, a play area and a cafe open daily from 09:30 to 16:00 for takeaway food and drink. There is also a caravan and camping site, booked through the council. The circuit is flat apart from the short rise at the dam and is one of the more sheltered walks in east Rotherham on a windy day.
THE SMALL PRINTRotherham Council publishes no site-specific dog rule for Thrybergh Country Park and there is no borough-wide dogs-on-leads order. The order that applies is the borough-wide Dog Fouling PSPO 2020, in operation from 29 January 2025 for three years: failing to remove dog faeces from land covered by the order is an offence, with a fixed penalty up to £100 or a fine up to £1,000 on conviction, and an exemption for registered blind people and users of accredited assistance dogs. The lead requirement in the Town Centre and Clifton Park PSPO 2025 does not extend out here. Anglers use pegs all round the water, so a lead near the fishing stands is only manners.
