Directions to the start →

Four and a half miles of field and track walking with short lengths of road, linking Thrintoft, Morton-on-Swale and Ainderby Steeple in about two hours, with several stiles and a crossing of the little-used Wensleydale railway line. Start from Thrintoft, where the New Inn car park has long been open to walkers who call in afterwards and there is otherwise room on the lane; a half-hourly bus serves Morton-on-Swale. Cattle and sheep are common in the pasture fields, the becks are shallow drinking water rather than swimming, and the A684 crossing at Morton is fast and blind.
