Parking
Considerate roadside parking on the village street only; there is no car park and no verge to speak of. Two or three cars is the realistic limit, so do not bring a group.

Thorpe Bassett is a single street with a church and a few farms, and the walking all goes south onto the wold. This round leaves the village on Water Lane, a public bridleway, follows it down past the last buildings and then climbs the bridleway up Thorpe Bassett Brow to about 100 metres. Across the wold top it meets Keld Lane, the narrow metalled lane that the Yorkshire Wolds Way itself follows on its way down to Wintringham, and drops north-east along it before a field bridleway runs back west into the village. The climb is gentle by Wolds standards, only about 60 metres in total, and the lane section is almost traffic-free.

THE SMALL PRINTPublic bridleways and a public road across working farmland throughout. The Countryside Code applies: keep the dog on a lead or in sight, keep to the path, and put it on a lead around livestock; a farmer may lawfully shoot a dog that is chasing or attacking stock. Sheep and cattle are grazed on the brow and there are gates rather than stiles on most of the route.
