A family-run pub on Gainsborough Road at the southern edge of Bawtry, in the same hands since 2007 and trading on plain home-cooked food at sensible prices rather than on a menu that changes every season. The pub describes itself on its own site as a family and dog friendly traditional pub and serves food seven days a week, which in this part of the borough is worth knowing because most of Bawtry's High Street venues publish nothing about dogs at all. There is a beer garden behind for warm days and a takeaway service. It is the practical dog stop for Bawtry now that the woodland east of the town is behind a permit scheme.
These are the parts only the business can add. We check the dog policy and stamp the date — photos, prices and their own words are theirs to put in, and this listing is waiting for them.
The fire, the snug, the water bowl by the door.
A few dishes and what they cost, so people arrive knowing.
Can the dog actually sleep here, and what does it cost.
Which rooms, which times, whether the whippet gets a biscuit.
Claiming fills every box above, and lets you reply to reviews when they open. £15 a month, no contract, and it never changes the verdict — the stamp stays ours.
Nobody has written one for The Ship. If you have been with the dog, you would be the first — and the first review is the one everybody reads.
