A varied 7.1-mile circuit with 239 metres of ascent, a little over three hours, taking country lanes and bluebell woods on to the heather of Scarth Wood Moor and back down through Clain Wood; boggy where the moor path drops off the edge. Start in Swainby, parking along the beckside street where the road runs either side of Scugdale Beck, and there is a bus from Northallerton and Stokesley. The beck through the village is a fine paddling spot at the finish, the woods take a dog off the lead well, but the moorland section is open access where leads are required from 1 March to 31 July, and there are sheep on Scarth Nick.
