Snaith, the Aire bank and the two Cowicks

The Priory Church of St Laurence fills the top of Snaith Market Place, a Norman and later building with a squat west tower that was a Benedictine cell of Selby Abbey until the Dissolution. The churchyard wraps round three sides and is the pleasantest bit of green in the middle of the town, with clipped grass, table tombs and a gate onto Pontefract Road. Dogs are welcome but must be on a lead: the council's dogs on leads order names St Laurence Churchyard specifically, one of only a handful of sites in this corner of the Riding that carries an order at all. There is free parking in the station car park two minutes away on Pontefract Road, which is also where the town's fifteen heritage walks start.

A cosy local at 9 Selby Road on the north side of Snaith, with several separate drinking areas and a rear yard that has a built-in barbecue, two guest ales at the pump and no pretensions at all. It is five minutes from the Priory church and the station car park where the town's heritage walks start. Note that CAMRA logged the pub as temporarily closed for refurbishment on 26 July 2026, due to reopen on or before 13 August 2026, so ring before you set off. CAMRA records it as dog friendly with no area excluded, which is a branch survey rather than the pub's own words.
