Three and a half flat miles using the footpaths along both banks of the Ure between North Bridge and the Boroughbridge Road bridge, an hour and a half, with a couple of field gates and no gradient at all. Start at North Bridge on the A61 north of the cathedral where there is limited street parking, or walk out from the Market Square in ten minutes; the Ripon to Thirsk bus stops at Sharow village green on the far side of the loop. The riverside pastures are grazed by cattle through the summer and a herd with calves is by some distance the most dangerous thing you will meet on this walk, so give them room and keep the dog close; the Ure is deep and fast in places, better for drinking than swimming, and the low meadows flood every winter and can stay under for weeks.

THE SMALL PRINTCattle graze the riverside meadows from May to October; leads on through the grazed fields and expect the low ground to be under water after winter rain.
