The Sea Cut: Scalby to Mowthorpe

Scalby Beck and Throxenby Mere loop

A 7.4-mile moderate loop of about three and a quarter hours that follows Scalby Beck upstream into the woods above Throxenby Mere and comes back over the fields, with 150 metres of climbing and riverside ground that turns to deep mud between November and March. Start in Scalby village by St Laurence church, where there is free roadside parking on Church Becks Lane and the number 3 and 128 buses stop on the main street. The beck gives water for most of the way and the woodland stretch is fine for off-lead running, but there are cattle and sheep in the fields on the return leg and a mile of village road at either end.
