Scalby Beck and the Sea Cut

A flat 5.6-mile circular of a little over two hours with barely 20 metres of climbing, following Scalby Beck and then the Sea Cut, the Georgian flood channel dug to take the Derwent's water east to the sea, out to Mowthorpe Bridge and back along the opposite bank. Start in Scalby village near the church, where there is on-street parking and the 3 and 12 buses from Scarborough come through. Level, sheltered and full of water for a dog to swim in, with long off-lead stretches between gates, although the riverside fields are grazed and the beck runs high and fast after heavy rain on the moors above.
