Rough Tor car park, at the end of the moor road from Camelford
Parking

Directions to the start →

Five miles over the two highest points in Cornwall, three and a quarter hours with 290 metres of climbing across open moor with no path worth the name for much of it. Start at the free Rough Tor car park at the end of the road from Camelford, which has room for perhaps eighty cars and is busy on any clear weekend. Two stiles on the Brown Willy ascent: the lower is easy and beside a gate, the higher is wired over and dogs must be lifted to reach the summit. Sheep, cattle and ponies graze the open moor all year, and dogs must be on leads no more than two metres long between 1 March and 31 July for ground-nesting birds.

THE SMALL PRINTDogs must be on a lead no more than 2m long between 1 March and 31 July, the breeding season for ground-nesting birds. Sheep, cattle and ponies graze the open moor year round. The higher stile on Brown Willy is wired over and dogs must be lifted.
