Rotherham's largest country park, a chain of four lakes made from opencast workings in the Rother valley between Killamarsh and Wales Bar, with a made circuit round the northern lakes and woodland belts on the valley sides. There is a watersports centre on the main lake, a cycle hire, a golf course and a cafe, so it is busy in a way the Dearne Valley sites are not. Parking is charged twenty-four hours a day, every day, and the main car park is signed off Mansfield Road. The lakeside path is level, wide and surfaced, and it is one of the few walks in the borough that is genuinely usable in a wheelchair the whole way round.
THE SMALL PRINTRotherham Council publishes no site-specific dog rule for Rother Valley Country Park and there is no borough-wide dogs-on-leads order. What applies is the borough-wide Dog Fouling PSPO 2020, in operation from 29 January 2025 for three years: failing to remove dog faeces from land covered by the order is an offence, with a fixed penalty up to £100 or a fine up to £1,000 on conviction, and an exemption for registered blind people and users of accredited assistance dogs. The lead requirement in the Town Centre and Clifton Park PSPO 2025 covers only the mapped town centre area, not this park.
