Three and three quarter miles and about an hour and a half of genuinely flat walking, just 30 metres of climb, along the Ure and back through open fields and the quiet lanes of Aldborough, with roughly a third of it on tarmac and the rest on firm riverside paths. Start at the green in Aldborough beside St Andrew's church, where there is free roadside parking, and the English Heritage Roman town and museum sits a minute away on the route. The Ship Inn takes dogs in the bar for a halfway pint; the field sections carry stock in summer and the Ure is deep and quick at the bank, so leads on for the riverside and the village roads.

THE SMALL PRINTDogs on leads along the riverbank, where the Ure is deep and fast, on the village roads and through fields carrying stock in summer.
