The inspiration behind Arthur Ransome s Swallows and Amazons Coniston Water offers a range of pursuits from leisurely lakeside strolls to motorboating paddleboarding and cruises on the Coniston Launch. Just 5 miles away the village of Coniston is home to a Ruskin Museum and no less than four pubs great for enjoying a hearty meal after a long day on the water. Meanwhile more amenities can be found in the market town of Ulverston 8.5 miles south which is also home to the Laurel and Hardy Museum. Or for more adventure head for Grizedale Forest 12 miles away and its Tree Top Adventures Segways and Go Ape high ropes course.
