One of a handful of tiny villages and hamlets in the area Boltongate is ideally located for exploring both countryside and coastline. Browse the independent shops cafes pubs and bars of Cockermouth before continuing south to Bassenthwaite for a lakeside picnic. Just north of the lake the Lakes Distillery produces artisan whisky gin and vodka and runs fascinating tours concluded with a trip to the tasting room for a quick tipple. Keen walkers will enjoy the challenge of nearby Skiddaw 14 miles away with its heather-clad slopes and magnificent elevated views. Or for a change of scene head 14 miles north to reach the Solway Coast home to nature reserves and sandy beaches. Beyond this lie substantial shared grounds including a tennis court and storage for bikes if needed. There is ample parking in the courtyard.
