Five and three quarter miles from the Moor Lane parking above Nosterfield down to the Ure at West Tanfield and back past Thornborough, a shade under two and a half hours with nearly half the distance on quiet tarmac. Start from the Moor Lane pull-in near the Nosterfield reserve; the lane sections are the safest bet after heavy rain when the riverside fields are standing in water. The tarmac is quiet but carries farm traffic, the field paths cross grazed ground with cattle, and the Ure bank is undercut in places, so this is a lead-in-hand walk with a drink at the river.
