Directions to the start →

A short flat circuit out of a hamlet that has lost its pub, using the public bridleway that leaves Hogg Lane south-west across the fields, then turning north up Luddith Road and back along Hogg Lane past St Nicholas's church. The church is worth the detour for its Norman font, carved with the Last Supper. Only about 26 metres of climbing in the whole loop, which makes it the easiest walk on this stretch of the Wolds and a sensible short outing for an old dog. Roughly half of it is quiet single-track lane with no pavement, so leads on for that part.

THE SMALL PRINTPublic bridleway across working farmland plus two stretches of unpavemented single-track road. The Countryside Code applies: keep the dog on a lead or in sight, keep to the path, and put it on a lead around livestock; a farmer may lawfully shoot a dog that is chasing or attacking stock. Hogg Lane is the B1248 Malton to Beverley road at the eastern end of the village and is fast, so lead up well before it.
