A Sheffield local green space in the middle of High Green, a strip of grass, mature trees and a made path between Mortomley Lane and the housing behind it. It is a couple of minutes across, so it is the short-leash morning walk rather than a destination, but it is level, well surfaced and easy to get to without a car. Angram Bank recreation ground is a few hundred yards north and Chapeltown Park a mile and a half south-east.

THE SMALL PRINTSheffield City Council has no dog control PSPO. Its only PSPO, from 7 April 2025, covers the city centre and prohibits alcohol in the street, begging, loitering, drug use and urination or defecation, with nothing about dogs. The rule here is the council's Responsible Dog Walking Code of Conduct: "keep dogs that do not have reliable recall on a lead", "stick to designated paths", "if another dog is on a lead, put yours on a lead too as a courtesy", and short leads from March to August in ecologically sensitive areas. Guidance, not a fineable order. Failing to clean up is an offence carrying a £50 fixed penalty or prosecution and a fine up to £1,000.

A Sheffield local green space on the edge of High Green, a mile and a half north-west of Chapeltown, with open grass, a play area and a path round the boundary. It is not countryside and it is not a day out, but it is level, well lit and enclosed on three sides, which makes it the practical early-morning and after-dark walk for anyone living in High Green or Mortomley. The lanes at the top of Angram Bank lead out towards Westwood and the old Thorncliffe workings for something longer.
