Georgian coaching inn on the hill above the harbour, where John Fowles wrote and where the sea view rooms look down over Lyme Bay. Several bedrooms including sea-view ones are dog-friendly at £10 per dog per night; book direct and say the dog is coming so you are put in the right room. Their own guide to the town's all-year dog beaches is unusually accurate.
These are the parts only the business can add. We check the dog policy and stamp the date — photos, prices and their own words are theirs to put in, and this listing is waiting for them.
The rooms that take dogs, and where they sleep.
Can the dog actually sleep here, and what does it cost.
What a night actually costs, so nobody has to ring to find out.
How many dog-friendly rooms, whether they are ground floor, where the dog sleeps.
Claiming fills every box above, and lets you reply to reviews when they open. £15 a month, no contract, and it never changes the verdict — the stamp stays ours.
Small, carefully done bed and breakfast a short walk above the seafront, five rooms and no children under twelve. Two of the rooms, Church View and the sea-view Premium room, take one small dog under fifteen kilos with the house Pooch Package added. Cats and other pets are not accepted.
Handsome 1735 house in gardens above the Cobb, the smartest address in Lyme and the best lawn to eat lunch on. Dogs are welcome in the gardens, the bar and the sitting room, but the hotel no longer takes them in any of the bedrooms, so this is a lunch stop rather than a dog-friendly stay. Worth knowing before you book.
The sandy town beach below Marine Parade, the one families aim for and the one dogs are shut out of in season. Dorset Council's order allows dogs here from 1 October to 30 April only. Monmouth Beach to the west and Church Cliff Beach to the east are open all year, and both are a two-minute walk away.
Nobody has written one for The Mariners Hotel. If you have been with the dog, you would be the first — and the first review is the one everybody reads.
