Our drawing of the route — the shape of the walk, not a navigation aid. Carry OS Explorer on the hill.
A short village round linking Little Smeaton with Kirk Smeaton, then back along Leys Lane past the Brockadale reserve car park with the wooded Went valley below on the left. Roughly half of it is quiet lane with no pavement, so this is a lead walk for traffic as much as for wildlife, and the section that touches Yorkshire Wildlife Trust ground at Brockadale carries the Trust's own rule that dogs must be on a lead at all times. There is no seasonal restriction anywhere on this route and no dog exclusion: the North Yorkshire dog control order only bans dogs from beaches and parks in the Scarborough, Filey and Whitby area, and its fouling requirement is the only part that applies here. Parking is on the street in either village or at the Brockadale car park at the far end of Leys Lane.
One short email when we add places or a council changes its beach rules. No noise, easy out.
