Directions to the start →

A short field-and-lane round from St Oswald's Church at Leathley, on the shelf of ground between the Wharfe and the Washburn. Hall Lane leaves the church eastwards as tarmac and degrades into a farm track past Leathley Hall, and at the field gate about half a mile out a signed public footpath turns north up the field edges to meet Stainburn Lane. Turning left brings you back west along the lane above the village with the Wharfe valley open to the south, then down Stainburn Close to the church. It is under two miles, there is no climbing worth the name, and the only awkward stretch is the quarter mile of lane at the end, which has no pavement.

THE SMALL PRINTPublic footpaths and farm tracks across grazed fields on a working estate. The Countryside Code applies: dog on a lead or in sight and under close control, on a lead around livestock, and gates left as you find them. The return along Stainburn Lane and Stainburn Close is on an unpavemented road.
