A 6.3-mile circuit with 260 metres of ascent, close to three hours, climbing from the village through Kilburn Woods to the head of the White Horse and on along the escarpment past Roulston Scar; the wooded pull is steep and the stepped path beside the horse is loose underfoot. Start in Kilburn village, where there is free parking near the Forresters Arms, which avoids the busy pay-and-display at the White Horse itself. The woods are excellent for an off-lead run with shade and a beck, but the cliff edge above the horse is unfenced, the Yorkshire Gliding Club airfield sits right on the route with cables and landing aircraft, and leads are essential for both.
