A two-room free house on Russell Street, rescued from dereliction in 2002 and now carrying thirteen handpumps along a single long bar. Food is limited to baps and pork pies, so the room stays a drinking room, with bare boards, close-set tables and standing room that fills quickly on a Friday. The walled beer garden at the side is the real space for a dog, planted heavily and shaded, and it has won CAMRA's national garden award more than once. CAMRA's branch surveyors record the pub as dog friendly; it publishes no policy of its own.
