Five hectares of former quarry floor and limestone grassland on Clawthorpe Road above Burton-in-Kendal, now colonised by orchids and rock-rose, with the working quarry alongside. Cumbria Wildlife Trust publishes the reserve as dogs on a lead. The ground is undulating and the paths get lost in bracken by mid-summer, so it is better in spring and autumn. It shares its layby with Clawthorpe Fell a few hundred metres up the road, so the two make one outing rather than two.

THE SMALL PRINTCumbria Wildlife Trust publishes the reserve as dogs "On a lead". An active quarry adjoins the reserve and has no public access.
