Timber cabins with wood-fired hot tubs set in the old quarry and woodland at Forcett Grange, a mile south of Forcett village. The site is split in two and only one half takes dogs: the Foxwood cabins are a dogs-welcome area, the Quarry cabins are not, and the limit is one dog per cabin with a surcharge on top of the room rate. Dogs that do come get bowls for food and water, some treats, eco-friendly bags and the run of The Meadow, and the cabins open straight onto woodland rather than onto a road. Book the Foxwood specifically, because a Quarry booking cannot be converted on arrival.

THE SMALL PRINTOnly the Foxwood cabins take dogs; the Quarry cabins do not. One dog per cabin, with a surcharge.

Stanwick Iron Age Fortifications

DL11 7RU
No reviews yet

The excavated section of rampart and ditch at Stanwick sits beside the B6274 at Carkin, between Forcett and Aldbrough St John, and is what remains visible of a Brigantian earthwork enclosing more than seven hundred acres. English Heritage says dogs on leads are welcome, restricted areas only, and the site is open at any reasonable time during daylight hours with no admission charge. There is no formal car park, only careful roadside parking on the B6274, and the ground is prone to flooding after rain. Steps lead up the bank to the monument, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs and a very small or elderly dog may need a lift.

The Stanwick ramparts from Hillhouse Lane

DL11 7RU
1.7 MI · 55M · 75% OFF-ROAD

From the English Heritage section of rampart on the B6274 at Carkin, north up Hillhouse Lane and then along the line of the Iron Age earthwork itself, which survives as a bank and ditch running through the fields above Stanwick St John. It is under a mile each way and the ground is rough and often wet, so it feels longer than it measures. English Heritage's rule for the guardianship section is dogs on leads, restricted areas only, and the rest of the earthwork crosses working farmland where leads are the sensible default anyway. There is no seasonal ban here, and no dog exclusion order of any kind in this part of North Yorkshire.
