Hatfield Moors

The southern half of the Humberhead Peatlands National Nature Reserve, a lowland raised bog of birch scrub, heather and flooded old workings between Hatfield Woodhouse, Wroot and Blaxton. Natural England has laid out three waymarked walks from the Boston Park car park including an easy access route suitable for wheelchairs with viewing and dipping platforms, bird hides and resting places, plus separate cycle and horse routes. Doncaster Council registers part of Hatfield Moor as open access land, and on open access land the statutory rule is a lead no more than two metres long from 1 March to 31 July and at all times near livestock, which here is about the nightjar, woodlark and other ground-nesting birds the site is internationally important for. Natural England warns of a good adder population across the moors and reserves the right to close areas temporarily for wildlife management or safety, signed on site.
