Hampsthwaite to Ripley on the Nidderdale Way

Four and three quarter miles and roughly two hours out over the fields from Hampsthwaite's old stone bridge to the model village of Ripley and back down Hollybank Lane, with 110 metres of climbing and a handful of stiles that a heavy dog will need lifting over. Park on the green in Hampsthwaite or use the 24 bus from Harrogate; Ripley makes the natural halfway stop for ice cream, and the Boar's Head takes dogs in the bar. The route crosses working sheep and cattle pasture on the Nidderdale Way, so leads stay on almost throughout, and there is a drinking trough at the Ripley end.
