Cockshot Plantation and the Ancient Ash
A tidy 4.7-mile loop with a gentle 90 metres of ascent, two hours at most, on field edges and plantation tracks north of the town, with one or two gates and a stretch that churns up in winter. Start from the market place in Kirkbymoorside, which has free parking off Crown Square and is on the Moorsbus and the York to Helmsley bus route. The plantations are quiet enough for a decent off-lead run and there is a beck near Cockshot for a drink, but the intervening fields hold sheep and cattle, so lead up at every gate.

No reviews yetSet just above the picturesque hamlet of Low Mills approx. 8 miles North of Kirkbymoorside this beautiful property is located in an idyllic North Yorkshire dale renowned for its daffodil walk along the riverbanks. This is a wonderful base for enjoying fantastic walks and bike rides across the North Yorkshire Moors with delightful villages to relax in including Hutton-le-Hole ideal for walkers and offers pubs gift shops and the Ryedale Folk Museum and Danby. Thriving market towns including Pickering and Helmsley both offer a lovely range of great independent shops pubs and restaurants or you could explore local attractions including Nunnington Hall Duncombe Park and Castle Howard. The North York Railway has steam trains running through to Whitby slightly further afield. Rosedale Valley is approximately 9 miles away where you can experience the famous glass blowing workshop and Rosedale Abbey. Step inside the entrance hall which is a great space for kicking off muddy boots and coats there is also a handy utility space with washing machine and tumble dryer. Walking through to the kitchen/diner with everything you need for a home away from home stay such as an electric oven and hob dishwasher fridge/freezer and microwave. Enjoy lazy breakfasts with good company around the farmhouse table. The lounge is warm and cosy and is complimented with comfortable seating ready for you to put your feet up by the wood burner after a long day hiking the hills with something good on the Smart TV. There is a double bedroom on the ground floor with beautiful furnishings and en-suite bathroom with freestanding bath separate shower and WC. Completing the ground floor is the separate WC. Upstairs on the first floor there are three further bedrooms a double bedroom a twin bedroom and a bunk bedroom. The bathroom offers a shower over bath and WC. Outside the enclosed garden overlooks the beautiful rolling countryside that surrounds you. There is also a patio area with seating perfect to sit and enjoy a chilled drink on a summers evening with good company. There is off-road parking for two cars. Need to know: 4 bedrooms 2 doubles, 1 twin and 1 bunk bedroom. 1 bathroom, 1 en suite bathroom and 1 separate WC. Electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. Utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. Wood burner (first basket of logs included). BBQ Charcoal not provided, please bring your own.. Electric and central heating included. Off road parking for 2 cars. Unfortunately, EV charging is not possible at the cottage. There are local EV points in Kirkbymoorside, Pickering and Helmsley. Wi Fi included. Shop 5 miles and pub 2.5 miles. Smart TV in lounge. 2 dogs welcome maximum medium sized, well behaved, quiet dogs welcomed in this cottage. Pets must not be left unattended in the cottage unless they are happy to be caged (cage not provided) and are not likely to bark. We kindly request that they are not allowed in bedrooms or on the furniture. Floorplan available upon request for your information. Bookings only to start on a Friday or Monday. Farndale Store is located just a quarter of a mile away, stocking all your essential items.
