Duggleby is the first village on the Gypsey Race, and the public bridleway leaving High Street to the east climbs steadily out of the valley onto Duggleby Wold and runs a mile and a quarter to the buildings at High Mowthorpe at 178 metres. It is a wide, firm farm track the whole way with big open views south over the wold and back down the Great Wold Valley. Turn round at High Mowthorpe, or carry on east on the bridleway that continues towards Kirby Grindalythe if you want a longer day. Duggleby Howe, one of the largest round barrows in Britain, stands beside the Kirby road at the far end of the village and is worth walking down to afterwards.

THE SMALL PRINTPublic bridleway across a working arable farm the whole way. The Countryside Code applies: keep the dog on a lead or in sight, keep to the track, and put it on a lead around livestock; a farmer may lawfully shoot a dog that is chasing or attacking stock. High Mowthorpe is a working farm and research holding, so lead on well before the buildings. There is no water on the wold.
