A bar on Station Road, Dodworth, opened in 2020 in a former shop, with exposed stone, a solid wooden floor and a mural of the old colliery across one wall, plus an upstairs room that works as a quieter cocktail den. The wooden floor and the yard outside make it a practical stop off the Dove Valley Trail and the paths up to Stainborough and Wentworth Castle. Level access, parking and a garden. CAMRA's Barnsley branch surveyors list it as dog friendly; the bar publishes no policy of its own.
These are the parts only the business can add. We check the dog policy and stamp the date — photos, prices and their own words are theirs to put in, and this listing is waiting for them.
The fire, the snug, the water bowl by the door.
A few dishes and what they cost, so people arrive knowing.
Can the dog actually sleep here, and what does it cost.
Which rooms, which times, whether the whippet gets a biscuit.
Claiming fills every box above, and lets you reply to reviews when they open. £15 a month, no contract, and it never changes the verdict — the stamp stays ours.
The main open space in Dodworth, off Station Road behind the Miners Welfare, with a play area, an outdoor gym and a perimeter path round the pitches. It is a village rec and nothing more, but Dodworth has little else within walking distance and this is where the village walks its dogs before work. Dodworth station is five minutes away on the Barnsley to Huddersfield line, and Gilroyd recreation ground is half a mile south. For a real walk, the Silkstone Waggonway starts three miles west.
The recreation ground at Gilroyd on the southern edge of Dodworth, off Gilroyd Lane, with a play area, a multi-use games area, a youth shelter and open grass with a path round it. Barnsley Council lists it among its Dodworth recreation facilities. It is a village rec and takes fifteen minutes to walk round, but the lanes south of it drop towards the Dove valley and the fields, which is where the longer walk is. Dodworth recreation ground is half a mile north.
Nobody has written one for The Dodworth Tap. If you have been with the dog, you would be the first — and the first review is the one everybody reads.
