The Dead Donkey

Sheffield · S7 1FL

No photo yet · the business adds these when they claim

A micropub at 240 Abbeydale Road on the Nether Edge side, opened in April 2019 in a former shop unit and kept to one small room of shared tables. There is no cask, no sports television and no kitchen beyond grilled cheese sandwiches, so it stays quiet enough for a dog that does not like a crowd, but the floor space is genuinely tight for anything big. It closes Mondays and shuts at five on Sundays. Chelsea Park and the Porter Valley path are a steep ten minutes up the hill. CAMRA's Sheffield branch surveyors record it as dog friendly with no room limit; it publishes no policy of its own.

Alder

The brewery tap in the Albyn Complex on Burton Road in Neepsend, an 1840s Victorian polish factory that still holds the gravity-fed tower brewing kit of the Sheffield Brewery Company, a couple of minutes from the Kelham Island bars and the Don. It is a working industrial room with bare brick, hard floors and long tables rather than upholstery, so a big dog is no problem and nothing gets ruined. Cask and keg plus spirits, a Wednesday quiz, and a function room upstairs. Dog friendly per CAMRA's WhatPub survey dated 24 July 2026, not the bar's own website.

Beer House S6

S6 2LX
No reviews yet

A converted shop on the inbound platform of Hillsborough tram stop at 548-550 Langsett Road, run by the same people as the Beer House on Ecclesall Road and a few minutes from Hillsborough Park. Five rotating cask ales plus craft keg, usually with a gluten-free option on both, and coffee. It is a small hard-floored room with a pool and darts room off it and board games, so there is somewhere for a dog to lie that is not the walkway. Children welcome until nine; step-free entrance via a ramp. Dog friendly per CAMRA's WhatPub survey of 28 February 2026 rather than the bar's own site.

Beer House, Ecclesall Road

S11 8PT
No reviews yet

An independent micropub in a former shop unit at 623 Ecclesall Road, a couple of hundred yards from Hunters Bar roundabout and the Endcliffe Park gates, so it is the natural finish to a Porter Valley walk. Two small rooms hold about forty people: the front has level access off the street and six handpumps of rotating cask, the back has a real fire and is reached up a step. Tables on the pavement and at the rear take the overflow. Dog friendly per CAMRA's WhatPub survey of 28 February 2026, not the pub's own site.
