Cridling Stubbs has no shop, no green and no waymarked route, so the walk here is the lane south-east to Womersley, past Northfield Lane and the Blue Lagoon dive lake and on to St Martin's church. It is single-track tarmac with grass verges and no pavement, running through open arable with the A1 a constant background noise from the west, and it is the sort of walk that suits a dog that will heel: sightlines are long but farm traffic moves quickly. Because it crosses working farmland the Countryside Code applies, which means keeping the dog on a lead or in sight, off the crops and on a lead around livestock. Turn at the church and come back, or make a day of it by picking up the parish council's seven-and-a-half-mile Womersley circular from there.

THE SMALL PRINTSingle-track lane with no pavement and farm traffic throughout. Countryside Code applies on the field-edge sections: dog on a lead or in sight, not straying from the path, and on a lead around livestock.
