Stainforth and Keadby Canal towpath, Stainforth

The western end of the Stainforth and Keadby Canal, walked east from Stainforth bridge towards Thorne through flat drained farmland with the old colliery ground on one side and open fields on the other. It is a genuinely level towpath with no gates and no stiles, wide enough to pass a cyclist, and it carries far fewer people than the Thorne end. Canal and River Trust guidance is to keep dogs under close control and in sight, with a short lead better on busy stretches, and to pick up and bin the waste; the Trust also notes that local byelaws require a lead in some places, so read the signs. The canal edge is unfenced and vertical, and there are no bins or benches once you are out of the village.
