Two flat miles round the edge of Copmanthorpe on lanes and field paths, under an hour and with ten metres of climbing in total, which makes it about the gentlest genuine countryside loop within reach of York for a dog that no longer does distance. Park on Main Street or by the recreation ground; the number 12 bus runs frequently from York, and the village sits right beside the A64 for anyone passing. Gates rather than stiles throughout, quiet lanes where a steady dog can walk loose and open arable where recall matters more, with sheep occasionally in the pasture blocks; there is no natural water, and while the lanes stay clean all winter the field paths turn heavy, so a lane-only variation is the January answer.
