Our drawing of the route, over road and path data from OpenStreetMap. It shows where the walk goes and what it goes through. It is not a survey and not a navigation aid — carry OS Explorer on the hill.
Six and three quarter miles and close to three hours with barely a hundred metres of climb, down to the quiet west shore of Coniston Water at Torver jetty, south along the Cumbria Way to Sunny Bank and back by the lanes. It starts in Torver village, where the free parking by the Church House Inn and the roadside spaces on the A5084 are the only options - both small, so arrive early on a fine day. This is the shore of Coniston Water without the crowds: shingle bays the whole way, no launches, deep clean water for swimming, and the Cumbria Way section is enclosed woodland. The fields between Torver and the lake are grazed and there are two ladder stiles a large dog will need lifting over.
