Brantingham Dale and Ellerker North Wold Circular

Brantingham is the quietest of the escarpment villages, with a Gothic war memorial built from stones taken out of Hull's old town hall standing at the road junction. From there the Yorkshire Wolds Way runs north up Brantingham Dale, a steep-sided wooded valley, then climbs about forty metres of chalk onto Ellerker North Wold at 140 metres, where the whole Vale of York opens out to the west. The return is on farm tracks along the wold top and back down through Brantingham Wood to the pond by the Triton Inn. It is the biggest climb anywhere in this patch, and the wold-top fields are working arable with stock on the stubbles in autumn.
