Historic town-centre pub-hotel on Finkle Street, steps from Richmond's cobbled market place and castle. Dogs get a proper welcome, with water bowls and treats behind the bar, dog-friendly eating areas and bedrooms; a five-pound nightly charge includes a bed and bowl. Log fires and cask ales complete the picture.
These are the parts only the business can add. We check the dog policy and stamp the date — photos, prices and their own words are theirs to put in, and this listing is waiting for them.
The fire, the snug, the water bowl by the door.
A few dishes and what they cost, so people arrive knowing.
Can the dog actually sleep here, and what does it cost.
Which rooms, which times, whether the whippet gets a biscuit.
Claiming fills every box above, and lets you reply to reviews when they open. £15 a month, no contract, and it never changes the verdict — the stamp stays ours.
The substantial ruins of a Premonstratensian abbey set in a bend of the Swale, reached by an easy mile-and-a-half riverside walk from Richmond Castle. English Heritage confirms that dogs on leads are welcome throughout the site, and admission is free. One of the most rewarding short walks in Richmondshire for anyone with a dog.
A rewarding town-and-river circuit beneath the great Norman keep of Richmond Castle, following the Swale past Richmond Falls and along the grassy riverside meadows of The Batts. Mostly enclosed riverside paths where dogs can stretch their legs, with the falls a favourite paddling spot in low water; keep dogs close near the weirs and when the river runs high. Dog-friendly pubs and the Station cafe are moments away.
Mighty Norman fortress towering above the Swale, one of the oldest stone castles in England, now cared for by English Heritage. Dogs on leads are welcome to explore the grounds, and water bowls are set out near the entrance. The wall-top views over the river and town are superb, and the riverside Batts walk starts directly below.
Nobody has written one for The Black Lion Hotel. If you have been with the dog, you would be the first — and the first review is the one everybody reads.
