A tiny, lovingly preserved timewarp pub in a steep wooded cleft below Goathland: two age-old bars with a sweet shop wedged between them and a terraced garden above the beck. Dogs are welcome, and the landlady is known to make a fuss of them. Food is gloriously simple - local pork pies, butties, scones and the famous Beck Hole Beer Cake.
