Bure Valley Path: Wroxham to Coltishall

4.5 MI · 2H 15M · 96% OFF-ROAD

Four and a half miles there and back, a flat and undemanding two and a quarter hours on the compacted trackbed that runs beside the fifteen-inch Bure Valley Railway for its nine miles between Wroxham and Aylsham. Start at the railway station car park at Hoveton and Wroxham beside the bridge, which is the trail head and has the largest parking in the village; the whole path can be walked one way with a train back if you time it with the timetable. It is traffic-free the entire distance with no stiles and good width for a nervous dog, the Bure is reachable at Belaugh and Coltishall for a drink, and steam trains pass close enough that a noise-shy dog wants a lead.

Walk SOME LIMITS

Wroxham, Salhouse Broad and the Bure

NR13 6RX
5.2 MI · 2H 30M · 78% OFF-ROAD

Five and a quarter miles in about two and a half hours, dead flat on lanes, oak-lined tracks and the riverbank, out from the boatyards at Wroxham Bridge to the beach and moorings at Salhouse Broad and back through Salhouse village. Park at the Salhouse Broad car park on Lower Street, postcode NR13 6RX, which is pay and display at £3.60 for two hours and £5 all day and sits a ten-minute walk above the water, or use the station car park at Hoveton and Wroxham. Salhouse asks that all dogs are kept under close control and out of the surrounding fields, and on a lead if recall is unreliable or the dog is likely to chase wildfowl; the broad has a genuine shallow sand beach for a swim.
