Dog-friendly walks in Newland

Newland is a lane junction, a scatter of farms and nothing else, sitting on the drained carr land between Camblesforth and the River Aire. A public footpath leaves the junction at the centre of the hamlet and runs south along the top of a raised dyke bank, dead straight for the best part of a mile before bending south-west towards the Rawcliffe parish boundary. It is grass underfoot on an embankment two metres wide with a drain on one side and arable on the other, which means good long views over the flats and a dog that can be seen for half a mile. There is no seasonal closure and no order excluding dogs anywhere on this route: North Yorkshire Council's dog control public space protection order covers only the Scarborough, Whitby and Filey area and does not reach the Selby side of the county.
