Kirby Wiske · 1 checked & stamped
Boots on. These are the Kirby Wiske walks worth the drive, with lead rules and livestock warnings marked.
Three and three quarter miles from Kirby Wiske across the River Wiske and over to the hamlet of Newsham, about an hour and three quarters, with six stiles and two very narrow bridges. Start in the village near the church with roadside parking; the road bridge floods regularly and there is a flood board beside the road, so check it before setting out in wet weather. The route crosses the A167 and the East Coast Main Line, both of which demand a short lead, and it skirts a cricket field and grazed pasture - the Wiske gives a drink but the banks are steep.
